Only the BeginningWhen you join Alpha Sigma Tau, you are not just joining a group, you are joining a legacy. Women for over 100 years have joined this sorority in hopes of making themselves stronger individuals.
The Alpha Sigma Tau National Sorority was founded on November 4, 1899, at Michigan State Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University) in Ypsilanti, Michigan by eight women. These women wanted to pursue excellence and strive to be the very best they could in a time were women rarely went to college. Due to these fantastic women, the sorority that has helped so many women across the United States become leaders and achieve more than they could have ever imagined was born. These brave women we call our founders are Helene M. Rice, Mayene Tracy, Adriance Rice, Eva O’Keefe, May Gephart, Mabel Chase, Ruth Dutcher, and Harriet Marx. Thanks to them, we have all been given the experience of a lifetime and a bond that will last forever.
